We want Unilorin to be the first digitalize university – NCC
The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), has charged university of Ilorin to be the first digitalized university in Nigeria. Mr. Amadi, the Telecommunication expert, in his lecture said, “The world has gone from analog to digital, and we want Unilorin to become the first smart (digital) university in Nigeria.”
He stated that, the goal of NCC is to make Nigeria a digitalized country, adding that the conventional meaning of illiteracy has gone beyond the ability to read and write, to ones ability to operate digital technology and emerging technology. In his lecture, he stated the 2017 “key drive” for NCC to be; To tell customers the quality of service NCC delivers, to educate customers on the effect of electromagnetic field, to introduce a new service code DND and to educate customers on how to contact the NCC service line for complain.
He stated that, texting STOP to the Do Not Disturb code (DND 2442) will cancel all unsolicited messages on a network provider, and customers can reach NCC via 622. Amadi reported that, Base Transceiver Stations (Mast) does not cause any harm to human health.
According to him, this findings has been confirmed by various researches by WHO (www.who.factsheet/emf) and International Commission on Non Ionised Radiation Protection (ICNRIP.org).
He further stated that, the protection of telecommunication infrastructure must be protected by consumers for quality service deliveries, as NCC is committed to checking the excess of all network providers in the country, through sanctions and other means. The Ibadan Zonal Controller of the Commission, Olubunmi Bamijoko, said the commission recognises customers as the king and the aim of NCC is to enlighten customers.
He said, “It is our duty to provide relevant information to customers.” According to the representative of the Vice Chancellor, DVC Academics, Prof. N.Y.S Ijaya, said this is a forum many of us have been looking forward to.
The Registrar, in his closing remark, reported that, initially we taught one network was doing well than another, but we discovered all are doing well. He further, appreciated everyone present at the event, stating that, “We hope all promises made will be met, so you cab serve Us Better.”
